Readiness Alert, February 2003. As part of team readiness
and training, members were asked to come together and prepare a fully deployable
team and cache.
Members Involved
All members were asked to participate in this exercise.
A full team roster was forwarded to NDMS-EOC, and many others helped in
the packing and loading portion of the exercise.
Activity History
All members were notified of the exercise and asked to
assemble at the staging area. Most of the work consisted of inventory
and packing of containers.

In addition, our containers were re-labeled to the new
NDMS standard. The team had adopted the KY-1 standard marking, but this
past fall NDMS defined standardization of equipment packing that gives
an element of interchangeability between all NDMS teams.

Matching the proper equipment to the revised inventory
list proved to be the most difficult of the tasks.

The team arrived early to complete the packing phase of
the exercise so that we could start loading. Our trailer arrived
as scheduled, and the team began loading a 55-foot trailer with the basic
load.

Additional logistics functions were also completed as
members located sources of equipment and supplies that had not been shipped
to the team by NDMS.

Since several inches of snow fell in the AM, equipment
was carried down slippery stairs at our old storage area, and across the
snowy and muddy lawn to the truck. The loading process went smoothly
under the direction of our two Logistics Chiefs.

The basic load remained safely on the truck a couple of
weeks until our new warehouse was ready to be occupied. Our equipment
was then off-loaded after shelving and security had been installed at the
new location.

Next time the team expects to be able to deploy even quicker,
due to our experience on the last alert, and since all equipment now remains
packed in the Rubbermaid containers and ready to load. |
