The 2002 NDMS Conference was held at the Westin Peachtree
Plaza Hotel in Atlanta April 13 to April 17.
Members
Fifteen members of the Dayton Region DMAT team attended
this years conference, or at least that is what they said. That would
be almost half of a complete deployed DMAT team! There was a wide
mix of DMAT sections that went to this years event. Doctors, Nurses,
EMTs, Administration, Logistics, Team Commander, and Communications were
all represented from our team, including an appearance by Doctor J.
Hanging out....
History
The Team Commander, Administrator, and Logistics Chief
all attend early sessions on Saturday and Sunday. The rest of the
group came in on Sunday evening for the most part.

This year's conference was heavily impacted in content
and increased attendance, by the events of 9-11. Attendance
saw a surge, with late registrants overflowing into adjacent hotels.
The major responses for the year, Tropical Storm Allison, the attacks on
the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the crash of United Airlines
Flight 93, and the system's response to Anthrax attacks were all reviewed
for their lessons learned, and, as a source of pride for a job well done.
Night owls....
The DMORT tract was well-attended, and seemed fuller than
in past conferences. The most memorable session for many however,
was the emotional, first-hand account of Chief Charles Wells, FDNY, survivor
of the collapse of both towers of the World Trade Center. Thank you
Chief Wells for your strength to be able to present this inspirational
presentation.
